Chicago Pneumatic CP8848-Pack Cordless Impact Wrench – UNBOXED
Posted by Toolstop on 19th Apr 2016
The benefits of air tools, and why they’re the standard in workshops and repair centres worldwide, is the uninterupted flow of power – air – to the tool.
But as we already know, there are times where being untethered from a power source is a huge advantage, particularly when the tool in your hand gives you the same performance.
Chicago Pneumatic are famous globally for their air powered tools, and they’ve taken their decades-worth experience in the world of air tools, vehicle servicing and maintenance, and applied all of it to the development of some new cordless power tools. Any cordless tool lives and dies by the quality of the battery that powers it. Chicago Pneumatic are claiming their new 4Ah 20v packs are "the best in the business", offering high resistance to bumps and drops, vibration while providing long runtimes thanks to the cells used in the packs. The company states that these batteries will unperform "standard lithium batteries" via a 2x better runtime.
The battery fitted to the CP8848, and the impact wrench itself, benefit from thick rubber bumpers that go a long way to protecting the battery and tool from those expected knocks and bumps while you work.
And the tool itself is very robustly made, benefiting from an aluminium back and clutch housing, and to be honest, as you’ve seen in our unboxing video, the thing looks like a beast.
But how does it perform?
Due to the fact you’ll be picking this up to allow you to work where an air line won’t be available, either in the workshop or if you’re a mobile mechanic, you need an impact wrench that offers the blows per minute and torque required to get the job done.
The 13mm square drive has at its disposal 2500bpm, rotating at up to 2500rpm. For nut loosening applications, the CP8848 has up to 1050Nm of torque. And for tightening up, you have up to 950Nm. Obviously for wheel nut tightening applications, you’ll want to use a certified torque wrench to finish the job.
Either way, the CP8848 is particularly suited to removing the wheels on light vehicles, so it’s therefore a great tool in the kit of a mobile mechanic, for example.
All in all, this is a simple but powerful tool that provides a simple solution for a tricky problem; getting the power of an air tool to areas where only battery power will do the trick.
Couple that with the build quality and 3 year warranty you’d expect from the kings of air tools, Chicago Pneumatic, and you have a compelling reason to add the CP8848 cordless impact wrench to your kit.
