Torque Wrenches – a Best Practice How To Guide From Norbar

Norbar torque wrenches have been made in the UK since the 1940s. There isn’t anything the company doesn’t know about torque wrenches, helped by the fact that it invented them.

We asked one of Norbar’s engineers to give us 5 tips for getting the most out of your torque wrench.

Here’s what he had to say.

5 Tips on How to Use a Torque Wrench

1. Familiarise yourself with your torque wrench. This includes understanding how the ratchet and operating handle works. The best place to start is with the instructions supplied with your torque wrench. And make sure you’re using the correct type of wrench for the application you’re undertaking
2. Don’t wind above or below the scale. This can damage your wrench
3. Apply good torquewrench-handlingg tecniques. Make sure you’re familiar with the manufacturer’s guidelines for the fastener you’re working on. Then grip your torque wrench by the middle of the handle and don’t pump! One click is enough
4. Don’t submerge in solvents. It may be tempting to give your torque wrench a thoroughly clean by submerging in a basin or tub of solvents. This will damage the tool. Instead wipe down carefully with a mild detergent
5. Store properly. Best torque wrench practise suggests we wind down to it’s lowest setting. Then store in the supplied case
