What’s the Best Work Glove for You?
PPE is no joke, no matter what type of work you’re in. We all need it, whether it’s eye protection, boots, coverall, or gloves. And while it times it can be a pain to remember all the PPE that’s required on the jobsite, we need to wear it. Fact.
However, it’s great to know that one company in particular is taking your demand for top quality PPE seriously, particulary when it comes to your hands.
Wearing the best possible gloves according to the type of job you’re working will make your life much more comfortable, it’ll keep you in the boss’s (and the HSEs’) goodbooks, but more importantly the gloves will protect your hands, without hindering your ability to get the job done.
What to Look for When Buying Work Gloves
The gloves you were at work, or in the shed, garage or workshop, should meet the following criteria:
- fit you well. Always make sure you’re buying the correct size of glove for your hand size
- feel right. Gloves that make your hands too hot in the summer or don’t keep you warm in the winter will end up being left in the van. Which defeats their purpose
- be durable. Buy cheap, buy twice. Durability doesn’t need to cost the earth, but it normally comes at a premium. If you’re involved in particuarly tough work, then you’ll need tougher, more durable gloves that won’t be shredded after a shift
- look good. Ok, this point isn’t as important as the others, but let’s face it, looking good on the jobsite is something that matters to a lot of us. So the gloves should fit right, feel right, last, and look good
To meet this criteria we’re going to present you with a range of gloves from Mechanix Wear®.
We’re delighted to be stocking some of the best gloves on the market, manufactured by Mechanix Wear® and this guide will showcase some of the best they have to offer, via the Toolstop website (click for our full range).
Launched back in 1991, Mechanix Wear® made gloves for the guys’n’gals making up the pit crews at the Daytona 500. The gloves were, of course, orginally aimed at mechanics, but now everyone from construction to DIYers is pulling on a pair Mechanix Wear® gloves.
Mechanix Wear® H15-05-011 Utility All Purpose Gloves – click to buy
These are fantastic all-purpose gloves that totally match the brief for anyone who wants to protect their hands while in the workshop, the garage, working in the garden or carying out construction work.
Mechanix Wear® MFF-05-010 Fastfit Gloves – click to buy
These are truly gloves for the professional. They fit extremely well due to their form-fitting stretchy panels that’ll feel snug between your fingers (no loose parts to get caught on anything) but they’re very easy to pull off or on. The palm of the gloves benefit from being made from two pieces of fabric.
This prevents the gloves bunching up, again helping to avoid any loose fabric that can snag or get caught.
Mechanix Wear® SFF-91-010 Safety FastFit Hi-Viz Gloves – click to buy
Created for visibility in hazardous environments, the gloves benefit from a synthetic leather palm to help you grip your tools and an elasticated cuff that’ll help them feel snug and safe while still affording you that "easy on-off" flexibility.
Mechanix Wear® CG-27-75-010 Framers Glove – click to buy
There’s no messing about with these, they’re like armour for your hands, created it seems with a true understanding of how important your hands are when you need to finish a job!
Benefiting from PORON® XRD™ padding in the palms, this helps reduce the impact and vibration you feel when working with hand or power tools, like the tools commonly used by framers. The first and second fingers, along with the thumb, are cut-away which allows you better control over your tools, and the cuff is "wide-fit"which allows for the easy "on-off" we’ve already seen, while keeping the glove very secure on your hand.
Mechanix Wear® MPT-51-010 M-PACT Gloves – click to buy
This time we’re looking at body armour for your hands, with full protection of all your fingers and knuckles via the Thermal Plastic Rubber moulding. Again, we have the PORON® XRD™vibration/impact dampening on the plams, and extra "grippy" rubber areas on the thumb and index finger to help with your dexteritiy. The fastening on the wrist is TPR hook and loop which offers a very secure and snug fit.
These gloves are beasts…and they’re all available now from Toolstop.
