Metabo's IMPULS Mode – a Toolstop How-To Guide

Hello again to all the mucky hands brigade, Wayne the mad Plumber back again.
We have all had those moments where you go to drill a hole, and the bit slides away like Torvill and Dean and far from getting a 6 off the Swedish judge, you are left red faced with a lovely scratch in your work.
One very handy function that Metabo has available is Impulse.
I’ve been using it on the Metabo SB18LTX Power Extreme combi-drill (click here for Toolstop’s best price).
Just press the button and as you squeeze the trigger the rotation of the chuck pulses from very slowly and predictably up through the rev range as you depress the trigger further and further, to give you the perfect start to your drilling every time.
So no matter if it’s polished metal, ceramics, tiles or any other very slippery surface you can breathe easy.
Even if you do use tape, or centre punch metal before drilling, instead of wearing out the switch doing it yourself the drill has this function built in for you.
Removal of tight screws and or rounded off screws is much easier using this function as well, the sudden extra torque and action really help to get them out.
And for other plumbers or sparks out there, try it when drilling out a tank or an electric box with a metal hole saw and your gonna wish you had it years ago.
